Predicting viral evolution through the use of computers
The rapid development of molecular biology in recent years has made it possible to accumulate genetic information and study results on various pathogens. These massive datasets contain undiscovered knowledge required to control zoonoses. In this division, we perform large-scale analysis on the genetic information and protein structures of pathogens by using computers in order to study methods for predicting their antigenic variation, host range and pathogenicity. By analyzing various factors involved in infectious diseases through the fusion of life science and information science, we aim to contribute to develop measures to predict and prevent the occurrence and spread of zoonoses.
