The rapid development of information technologies and molecular biology in recent years has enhanced the accumulation of epidemiological data of infectious diseases and the genetic information of their causative microorganisms. These massive datasets contain information perquisite for establish effective control measures of infectious diseases. The Division of Bioinformatics utilizes computation in analyzing the genetic information of pathogens and the epidemiological data of infectious diseases, aiming to clarify the effect of the genetic information of pathogens on their transmissibility, host range, and pathogenicity. Through understanding the epidemiology of infectious diseases and population genetics of pathogens, the Division of Bioinformatics is contributing to the development of effective control measures to prevent the emergence and spread of infectious diseases.
