About us
The Division of Bioinformatics is a research division responsible for computational studies at International Institute for Zoonosis Control in Hokkaido University. We are developing computational methods by integrating mathematical theories from different research areas related to infectious diseases and pathogens. Here are research areas we are interested in — in alphabetical order:

See the Posts section for further information on these research areas. Using theories established in these research fields, we are analyzing the big data associated with infectious diseases and pathogens, aiming
- to formulate general theories,
- to develop effective methods,
- to find important factors
that can be used to establish control measures of infectious diseases in humans and animals. Currently, we are working on the following infectious disease pathogens:
- influenza viruses,
- human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV),
- corona viruses,
- African swine fever viruses,
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis

The Division of Bioinformatics is a “dry lab” and there are little or no chance for experimental studies. Instead, we are collaborating with experiential scientists in “wet labs” inside our research institute and outside it. Online collaboration platforms, such as GitHub are used for communicating with collaborators in the world as well as sharing data and programs within the research team.
Our laboratory is based on the first floor of Second Building of International Institute for Zoonosis Control, which is located at the north area of Sapporo Campus of Hokkaido University in Japan (GoogleMap).
