Prof. Suzuki was awarded an honorary doctorate from Thammasat University by King Rama X of Thailand. 鈴木教授がラーマ10世タイ国王からタマサート大学名誉博士号を受称しました。
The honorary doctorate from Thailand’s Thammasat University is awarded to those who have made outstanding achievements in their respective academic fields and contributed to the development of Thai academia, and a few people are awarded each year. This year, the award ceremony was held at the university on Saturday, February 1st, and six people received the award for the 2022-23 academic year: former President of the Council of Thammasat University Dr. Setabutr, former Prime Minister of Thailand Dr. Panyarachun, Princess Sirivannavari, former Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Thammasat University Dr. Songpaisan, and Professor Suzuki.
Professor Suzuki was awarded for his contributions to public health in Thailand, and was highly praised for his numerous achievements, including original papers, in the field of tuberculosis and drug-resistant bacteria through joint research with Thailand, as well as for his contribution to the improvement of public health in Thailand through the training of researchers in the field of bacteriology by accepting many students from Thailand into the doctoral program at our graduate school.
This is the second honorary doctorate from a Thai university, following the honorary doctorate from Mahidol University in 2022. Since giving his first lecture in Thailand in 2000, he has conducted numerous joint research projects with Thai universities and national research institutes, and this has led to the award of this honorary doctorate.
タイのタマサート大学名誉博士号とは、各学問分野において顕著な業績をあげ、タイの学術の発展に寄与した者に付与されるものであり、毎年若干名が授与されます。今回は、2月1日（土）に同大学で授賞式が開催され、2022-23年度分として、 Setabutr元 タマサート大学審議会会長、 Panyarachun元タイ国首相 、Sirivannavari王女、Songpaisan 元タマサート大学歯学部長並びに 鈴木定彦教授の6名が、受称しました。
鈴木教授の受称は、タイにおける公衆衛生学への貢献に対するもので、結核及び薬剤耐性菌の研究においてタイとの共同研究を通じて原著論文をはじめとする数多くの業績を上げたこと、並びに 、タイより本学大学院博士課程に多くの学生を受け入れ、タイの細菌学分野研究者人材を育成したことを通じてタイの 公衆衛生向上に寄与したことが高く評価されました。
2022年のタイのマヒドン大学名誉博士号に続いての2回目のタイの大学よりの名誉博士号受称となります。2000 年に初めてタイにおいて講義をして以来、タイの大学並びに国立研究所と数多くの共同研究を実施し、業績をあげてきたことが今回の名誉博士号に繋がりました。
