>> Sci Rep 15, 41249 (2025). PMID: 41271826

◆ Blood parasites, including malaria and various neglected tropical disease (NTD) parasites, remain highly prevalent, particularly in tropical regions.
◆ We combined a portable nanopore NGS device with a universal parasite 18S rDNA PCR* approach.
◆ This system enables agnostic parasite detection, including unknown or previously unrecognized parasites.
*Patent application: JP2025-005095 — Universal eukaryotic 18S rDNA amplification combined with blocking primers that selectively suppress host mammalian DNA amplification.

A high prevalence of dogs seropositive to Leishmania in Zambia.

◆Infection with the parasite Leishmania causes severe health problems in both humans and dogs.
◆For several decades, there have been no reported cases of leishmaniasis in Zambia, Africa.
◆ Here, our recent serological survey of dogs revealed a high prevalence of Leishmania infection in the country.
